Mary Church Terrell Literary Club hosts 22nd Annual Literary Luncheon
JANS – The Mary Church Terrell Literary Club held its 22nd Annual Literary Luncheon April 4, 2026, at the Westin in downtown Jackson, MS. Guest speaker was Dr. Sanderia Faye, award-winning author of The Mourner’s Bench.
Following its tradition to assist aspiring students with books stipends, this year’s recipients are London Harper and Taylor Moffett. Harper is a graduating senior at Murrah High School, where she has distinguished herself as a committed student and performer. She has developed her artistic gifts through the Wells APAC Music Theory Program, participating in both vocal and instrumental performance. Harper will attend Alcorn State University, where she will pursue studies in preparation for a career as a Radiologic Technologist.
Taylor Moffett is also a graduating senior at Murrah High School. At Murrah, he has earned Honor Roll distinction, the 2025 Social Studies Award, an Essay Contest award, and recognition for Perfect Attendance. Moffett has served his school as a Student Council member, his team as a varsity football athlete, his community through volunteer service with the Mississippi Food Network and the Salvation Army, and his faith community as a Junior Deacon. He has also participated in the JSU STEM Program and the Jackson, MS Kappa League. In Fall 2026, Moffett will enroll at Jackson State University, where he will pursue a degree in Civil Engineering. He is committed to a career of service to the people of Mississippi through the development of infrastructure that promotes safety, equity, and opportunity for generations to come.
Club Woman of the Year honors went to Dr. Preselfannie McDaniels. The award is bestowed to a club sister having given exemplary service to the club. Special thanks were given to Dr. Candice Love Jackson for her distinguished service as president of the literary club.
