Legacy Foundation invests $15,000 in education
JANS – The Board of Directors of Legacy Education and Community Empowerment Foundation, Inc. continues its tradition of awarding $1,000 scholarships to students and $500 grants to educators, based on their leadership excellence. The Legacy Foundation, headquartered in Forest, MS, has provided services to the community for fourteen years. Retired Attorney and Board President Constance Slaughter-Harvey and Executive Director Dr. Constance Burwell are the founders. Since the inception of Legacy in 2011, more than $150,000 in scholarships have been awarded. This year, Legacy invested $15,000 in educational scholarships.
Awardees are:
Teacher Jessica Reiss Melton is a past scholarship, five-year volunteer, and second-year recipient of the late Dr. Rhonda Kelley Grant at Forest Elementary School in Scott County, MS.
Librarian Dr. Tonia Smith is a first-year recipient of the late Librarian Olivia Kelley Slaughter Grant at Scott Central Attendance Center in Scott County, MS.
Teacher Brianna White is a first-year recipient of the late Dr. Rhonda Kelley and Dick and Lucil Lovelady Grant at Forest Elementary School in Scott County, MS.
Teacher Chasity Gray is a volunteer and first-year recipient of the late Dr. Rhonda Kelley Education Grant at Forest Elementary School in Scott County, MS.
Coach Josh Larson is a volunteer, first-year recipient of the late Coach, Principal, and Alderman W.L. Slaughter and Coach and Election Commissioner Roy Pinkston Memorial Grants at Morton High School in Scott County, MS.
Coach Victor Perez is a first-year recipient of the late Coach, Principal, and Alderman W.L. Slaughter and Coach Roy Pinkston Memorial Grant at Forest High School in Scott County, MS.
De’Aerial Brooks is a six-year volunteer, fifth-year recipient of the Legacy Foundation Scholarship, and graduate of the College of Health Services & Careers in Nursing. She is a resident of Scott County, MS.
Valerie Camargo is a second-year recipient, volunteer, Nursing Junior at the University of MS Medical Center, and Gary Slaughter Family Memorial Scholarship recipient in Scott County, MS.
Pre-Nursing Assistant Joniya Pace is a first-time recipient and recipient of the Representative Charles L. Young Memorial Scholarship in Scott County, MS.
Taylor Moffett, a first-time recipient and Murrah High School graduate, will attend Jackson State University to major in Civil Engineering. He is the recipient of the Gary Slaughter Family Scholarship and is from Hinds County, MS.
Addison Lloyd is a first-time recipient and graduate of Morton High School. She received the Aura Neely Gary Memorial Scholarship and will attend Hinds Community College to become a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit & Neonatal Nurse. Addison is from Scott County, MS.
Mahogany Robinson is a first-time recipient, a graduate of Lake High School, and will attend Hinds Community College to pursue Radiology Technology. She received the Harvey Burwell Family Scholarship and is a Scott County, MS resident.
Terry Rogers is a first-time recipient, Junior, and Pre-Law Major at Tougaloo College. He received the late Senator Henry Kirksey Memorial Scholarship and is a resident of Clarke County, MS.
Nurivet Leal Santiago is a past summer scholar, first-time recipient, and graduate of Forest High School. She will attend East Central Community College to pursue Marketing. She received the Aura Neely-Gary Scholarship and is a Scott County resident.
Breyial Joseph is a past seven-year summer scholar, youth leader volunteer, first-time scholarship recipient, and graduate of the MS Math and Science School. She will attend MS State University and major in engineering and natural resources. She is the recipient of the Don Bell Memorial Scholarship and a Scott County native.
Madison Berry is a first-year law student at the University of Mississippi Law School and Constance Slaughter Harvey BLSA Chapter. She is a first-time Legacy recipient and resident of Lafayette County, MS.
Jamie Blanchard is a second-year law student at the University of Mississippi Law School and Constance Slaughter Harvey BLSA Chapter. She is a first-time Legacy recipient and resident of Arlington, Texas.
Alexis Cobbs is a third-year law student at the University of Mississippi Law School and Constance Slaughter Harvey BLSA Chapter. She is a first-time Legacy recipient and resident of DeSoto County, MS.
Diamond Lambert is a third-year law student at the University of Mississippi Law School and past Constance Slaughter Harvey BLSA Chapter President. She is a first-time Legacy recipient and resident of Long Beach, New York.
The Board of Directors (President Constance Slaughter-Harvey, Esq., Vice President Retired United States Air Force Lt. Col. Robert Kincaid, Treasurer Verna M.
