JANS – Rust College student Karmece Talley, a senior computer science major, has achieved a groundbreaking milestone as the first student in the college’s modern era of innovation to have a peer-reviewed paper accepted for presentation at a premier STEM conference.

Her research has been selected for inclusion in the Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences (HICSS), ranked second among comparable global conferences in a 2021 Microsoft Academic study.

Talley co-authored a paper titled “Can AI Recognize Its Own Reflection? Self-Detection Performance of LLMs in Computing Education,” which explores artificial intelligence and its applications in computer science education. Her achievement marks a significant moment in the college’s continuing advancement in research and academic excellence.

This accomplishment positions Talley as the first of many Rust College STEM majors poised to become published researchers prior to graduating.
