The Justice on the Line Campaign Party and National Town Hall Meeting brought community organizers, attorneys, activists, advocates, media representatives and members of the public together October 2, 2026, at the JSU e-Center in Jackson, MS.
The event featured a series of daytime discussions focused on police relations, community organizing, justice and new leadership, followed by an evening town hall program featuring Mississippi gubernatorial candidate Priscilla Till.
The daytime program opened with a discussion titled “Police Relations and Black People: How to Handle Police Encounters.” Panel participants included Dr. Ted Sutton of Men Against Murder, Attorney Ishmael Muhammad of Jackson, MS and John Barnett of T.H.U.G. (True Healing Under God). The discussion addressed interactions between Black communities and law enforcement and the importance of understanding how to respond during police encounters.
The second panel, “Community Organizing and Justice,” brought together Patrick Lumumba of SCAT, Kareem Muhammad of Mississippi LOC, Shreveport, Louisiana, justice advocate Mayquee Jackson and longtime organizer Rukia Lumumba. The panel focused on community organizing, civic participation and approaches to addressing issues of justice within local communities.
The afternoon program continued with “New Leadership and Justice,” featuring Dr. Tauheedah Bronner and Ambassador Imam Akbar. The discussion examined leadership and the role of community-based movements in addressing social and justice issues.
The evening National Town Hall Meeting began at 6 p.m. with the Black National Anthem, followed by opening remarks and introductions from moderators John Barnett and Doshon Farad.
Dr. Tauheedah Sabree delivered a presentation before Kareem Muhammad and a guest addressed the audience. The program also included fundraising efforts and remarks from Attorney Malik Shabazz, host of the Black Lawyers for Justice Conference.
At approximately 7 p.m., Priscilla Till was formally introduced to the audience. Till then addressed attendees as part of the evening’s featured program.
Patrick Lumumba and guests followed with a discussion before the program moved into an open guest segment. Organizers provided an opportunity for individuals to share personal experiences and concerns with those attending the town hall.
An audience open-floor session followed, allowing members of the public to participate directly in the discussion.
The conference concluded at approximately 9:30 p.m. with closing announcements, instructions and an opportunity for attendees to meet participating guests and panelists.
Justice on the Line brought together individuals with different backgrounds and areas of experience around a common public forum addressing policing, community organizing, leadership and justice.
The event served as an opportunity for speakers, organizers and members of the public to place their perspectives before an audience and continue discussions surrounding issues affecting communities in Mississippi and beyond.
