Jim Hill High School gala honors outstanding achievements of alumni
JANS – The Tiger Alumni Fundraising Gala, held on January 11th at the JSU e-Center, brought together alumni, supporters, and community leaders for a night of celebration, recognition, and giving back. The inaugural event honored Jim Hill graduates who have made exceptional contributions in education, entrepreneurship, health and science, ministry, and social justice.
“So many Jim Hill alumni are doing amazing things in and around the Jim Hill community that we wanted to take the time to recognize and celebrate their contributions and accomplishments. This inaugural celebration hopes to be one of many more to come,” said Event Organizer Tamika Harris, who also serves as Jim Hill H.S. Head Coach of the Tiger Cheer Army.
The distinguished winners, selected by an open poll, were Dr. Denetra Jackson and Terrance Hill for education, Katrina Banyard for entrepreneurship, Dr. Ebony Butler for health and science, Christopher Wheatley for ministry, and Representative Zakiya Summers for social justice.
In a moment of celebration, Rep. Summers expressed her deepest honor saying, “This recognition is not just for me, but for everyone who has fought, sacrificed, and stood for justice in our communities. Social justice is not a moment – it is a movement, and I remain committed to ensuring that equity, fairness, and opportunity are not just ideals, but realities for all. There is no better family than the Jim Hill family, and I want to thank all who helped make this happen and for celebrating the work of our incredible alumni who continue to uplift and empower our communities.”
Finalists from all award categories included:
• Excellence in Education: Courtney Jones and Mrs. Barbara Hilliard
