HCSO achieves NIBRS certification to advance transparency, public safety

JANS – The Hinds County Sheriff’s Office received its official certification as a National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) agency August 29, 2025. This achievement marks a significant step forward in the department’s commitment to data-driven policing, transparency, and accountability.

NIBRS, administered by the FBI, replaces the legacy Summary Reporting System and provides a more comprehensive and detailed view of crime in our communities. By adopting NIBRS standards, the Hinds County Sheriff’s Office joins a growing number of law enforcement agencies nationwide that are embracing modernized crime reporting to better inform public safety strategies, policy decisions, and community engagement.

“This certification reflects our unwavering dedication to integrity, innovation, and service,” said Sheriff Tyree Jones. “NIBRS allows us to tell the full story behind each incident – giving our community, policymakers, and partners the clarity they deserve.”

Achieving NIBRS compliance is no small feat. It requires rigorous system upgrades, extensive training, and meticulous data validation. The Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest gratitude to the personnel who led and supported this transformation. Their perseverance, professionalism, and attention to detail made this milestone possible.
