On Oct. 28th, West Jackson Community Development Corporation (West Jackson CDC) announced a nearly $3 million grant from the U.S. Department of Labor to support workforce development and reentry opportunities for justice involved young adults. The RESTART (Reentry Employment in Skilled Trades, Advanced Manufacturing, Registered Apprenticeships, and Training) initiative is designed to connect young adults ages 18 to 24 with occupational skills training, education, employment opportunities and supportive services. Led by CEO/Executive Director Linda Carter, West Jackson CDC will coordinate the initiative, which is expected to serve approximately 400 participants in three Mississippi communities: Hinds County/Jackson, Harrison County/Gulfport and Washington County/Greenville. Training and career pathways will focus on industries including skilled trades, advanced manufacturing, shipbuilding, transportation and logistics, renewable energy, healthcare support and registered apprenticeships.
