On Nov. 2nd, community members, family members of victims of police violence and civil rights organizations gathered outside the Mississippi Attorney General’s Office in Jackson to protest Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s determination that the fatal shooting of 1 year old Kohen Wiley by a Senatobia police officer was justified. The demonstration was organized by Black Lives Matter Grassroots, Building Bridges Coalition, Movement for Black Lives, Jackson People’s Assembly, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund and other organizations. Participants called for accountability in cases involving police killings and urged state officials to pursue prosecution when officers are responsible for deaths. The protest also brought attention to other cases involving police violence in Mississippi, including the deaths of Dexter Wade and George Robinson in Jackson. Kohen Wiley’s family and community organizers called for greater accountability in the case. The demonstration was held one day after what would have been Kohen’s second birthday and the day before the November 3rd midterm elections. (Advocate Photos: Joshua Martin)
