On Jul. 21st, former NFL player and Jackson native Fred Brown officially broke ground on Fifth and Fondren, a new five unit housing development at the corner of Lorenz and Downing streets in Jackson. The project, a partnership between Brown Collective Group and Elite Capital Group, represents a continued investment in Jackson’s growth and revitalization by bringing new residential housing to the Fondren area. A Jim Hill High School graduate, Mississippi State standout and former NFL player, Brown’s journey from Jackson Public Schools to professional football has now come full circle through his commitment to giving back to the community that helped shape him. Organizers say the development is the first step in a broader vision to support redevelopment efforts in Jackson. (Advocate Photos: Joshua Martin)
