JANS – Lanier Health Science Academy scholars are taking the next step in their journey to becoming tomorrow’s healthcare heroes. These scholars are gaining real-world skills, hands-on experience, and making a difference in the community through coursework, career training, and leadership opportunities.

The program includes an embedded work-based learning component, where scholars complete skills assessments in areas such as safety, infection control, and proper hand washing techniques. Building on these foundations, scholars will have the opportunity to perform real simulations, including the use of sterile techniques, taking and recording vital signs, and participating in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training and certification.

Beyond the classroom, Lanier Health Science Academy scholars are active members of Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA), a nationally recognized organization for aspiring healthcare workers. Through HOSA, scholars take part in leadership development, competitive events, and community service projects. Participation in HOSA gives scholars a platform to practice teamwork, leadership, and innovation.

“This program allows scholars to bridge classroom knowledge with practical application,” said Mildred Davis, RN Health Science Instructor. “They are developing not only the technical skills needed in healthcare, but also the confidence and professionalism that will serve them throughout their careers.”

“These scholars are preparing to be the next generation of healthcare professionals. With hands-on training and HOSA leadership opportunities, they are already setting themselves apart,” said Latasha Banks, Academy Coach of Lanier Health Science Academy.
