Free Environmental Explorers School for Mississippi middle school students

JANS – Calling all budding scientists, community heroes, and eco-explorers! This June, the Community Noise Lab at the Brown University School of Public Health is opening its virtual doors for the Environmental Explorers School – and your middle schooler is invited. Starting June 8, 2026, students in grades 5–8 can dive into a free, self-paced journey through the world of environmental health. Whether your child is working from home or participating in a summer enrichment group, this program turns the world into a classroom.

Choose Your Own Adventure

Forget “one-size-fits-all” learning. This year, students take the driver’s seat with over 30 courses to choose from. They can build a custom curriculum based on what they actually care about:

Eco-Justice: Air pollution, water quality, and illegal dumping.

The Future: Data centers and environmental technology.

Life Skills: Nutrition, public speaking, and more!

Each course features an engaging lecture, a quick quiz, and a hands-on community activity to put their new knowledge into action.

As students move through the program, they’ll earn digital badges and points, which are redeemable for swag like t-shirts, bookbags, and gift cards. Every student receives a Certificate of Completion from the Community Noise Lab at Brown University.

What’s the catch? (Spoiler: There isn’t one.)
