Four selected as interns with Congressman Thompson’s D.C. office
JANS – Lauren Tatum, Miketavius Stokes, Brooke Williams, and Courtney Maury have been selected to serve as interns with Congressman Bennie G. Thompson’s Washington, D.C. office.
Lauren is a native of Madison, Mississippi, and a rising sophomore at Hampton University majoring in Accounting. On campus, she serves as the Deputy Political Director of Hampton’s Voters of Tomorrow chapter and is an active member of her collegiate chapter of the NAACP. She is deeply passionate about addressing the systemic challenges facing her hometown and is committed to strengthening institutional accountability and advancing meaningful policy change.
Lauren hopes to strengthen her knowledge of public policy and institutional accountability as she prepares for a future in public service.
Miketavius is a native of Jonestown, Mississippi, and a recent graduate of Philander Smith University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science as the University’s valedictorian. Throughout his time in college, he remained an active leader in the Boys to Men mentoring program in Jonestown, where he helps mentor and inspire young men in his community.
Miketavius hopes to gain further insight into the legislative process in the United States Congress as he prepares for a career in public service.
Brooke is a native of Jackson, Mississippi, an honors student, and a rising junior at Jackson State University, majoring in Political Science with a concentration in Legal Studies. On campus, she serves as Student Government Association Chief Justice and is an active member of the Campus Activities Board, along with several other organizations that foster leadership and civic engagement.
Brooke hopes to gain a deeper understanding of public service and strengthen her advocacy for marginalized communities as she prepares for a career in public service.
Courtney is a native of Hattiesburg, Mississippi, and a rising senior at Mississippi College, majoring in Political Science with a minor in English. As a former intern in Congressman Thompson’s Bolton office and at the Mississippi State Capitol, Courtney gained valuable experience in constituent communications and public service.
Courtney hopes to gain a deeper understanding of public policy, build more hands-on experience serving constituents, and develop skills that will help prepare her for a future career in law and public service.
