FMOL Health | St. Dominic hosts Giant Colon exhibit for Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month
JANS – FMOL Health | St. Dominic Hospital welcomed the American Cancer Society’s Giant Colon exhibit Mar. 2 in the West Tower lobby, marking a significant event in honor of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. The immersive walk-through experience offered visitors a unique opportunity to see firsthand how colorectal cancer develops and underscored the lifesaving importance of early screening.
Hundreds of guests, including community members and media partners, explored the larger-than-life inflatable colon and learned about the progression of colorectal cancer – from polyps to advanced disease. Clinical experts from FMOL Health | St. Dominic were on site to share updated screening recommendations, highlight rising rates of colorectal cancer in younger adults, and discuss advances in treatment that are improving patient outcomes across Miss.
“We’re grateful for our ongoing partnership with the American Cancer Society, which allows us to empower our community through education and support,” said Mechale Mayfield, Senior Director of Oncology Service Line at FMOL Health | St. Dominic. “Early screening remains the most effective tool to prevent colorectal cancer, and we encourage all eligible adults to begin screenings at age 45.”
The event sparked important conversations about risk factors, prevention, and the role of family history in cancer development. Attendees left with greater awareness and actionable information to protect their health.
