JANS – Just off the heels of celebrating his 46th birthday, Jackson firefighter David Lamont Friday was promoted to Captain for Rescue 23 on May 30, 2023.
Among those applauding this milestone is JFD Chief Willie Owens. “Friday is a hard-working individual who has dedicated his life to service, leadership, and professional excellence. He is an inspiration and an example of what can be accomplished through hard work, dedication, and a commitment to service. David is deeply committed and strives to serve as a role model for his family, colleagues, and community.”
Friday is a native of Killeen, TX, the fourth child of George and Linda Friday, alongside his siblings Isaac Friday, Wendy Friday Kellar, and the late Shunt Phillips. He and his wife, Antrice, are the proud parents of two beautiful daughters, Se’Lah and D’Lalah.
A 1996 graduate of Lanier High School, Friday excelled in basketball. He continued his education as a student-athlete at Mary Holmes Community College, earning an associate’s degree in biology in 1998, which set him on the path towards a career in healthcare.
He amplified that passion in 2009 when he joined the fire department as a firefighter. His demonstration of leadership and dedicated service led to his promotion as a Lieutenant in August 2019, and now as Captain for Rescue 23.
According to his fellow firefighter, Eddie James, “David has become a respected figure in the firefighting community, a testament to his hard work and leadership skills.”
In addition to his work as a firefighter, Friday has also been employed with the Baptist Medical Center since 2000, where he currently works part-time as a joint technician.
