Dr. Sharon Jessé Edwards attends AAAM conference in Philadelphia
JANS – Dr. Sharon Jessé Edwards, a visiting Mellon Scholar at Jackson State University, attended the Association of African American Museums (AAAM) Conference held in Philadelphia, PA from August 19-21. The conference theme was “This Land Holds Our Stories: Celebrating America 250, and 100 Years of Negro History Week, We’re still Making America Whole.”
In addition to engaging multiple panels about the significance of the current moment in which we live, Dr. Edwards was able to connect with scholars around the country and share the good things happening at Jackson State University, including her upcoming courses focused in US, Women, and Civil Rights History in conjunction with the COFO center.
The AAAM is a non-profit member organization established to support African and African American focused museums nationally and internationally, as well as the professionals who protect, preserve, and interpret African and African American art, history, and culture.
Dr. Edwards is pictured with Dr. Lonnie G. Bunch III, the 14th Secretary of the Smithsonian Institution and the founding director of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC). She is also pictured with Dr. Ashley Jordan, the President and CEO of the African American Museum in Philadelphia, PA.
