Dr. Desma Kelly takes on new duties as principal of Powell Middle School

JANS – Longtime educator, Dr. Desma Kelly was recently appointed principal of Powell Middle School for the 2025-26 school year by the Jackson Public School District. 

With over 20 years of experience in public education, Dr. Kelly has served in a variety of leadership roles, including teacher, assistant principal, principal, and Director of Career and Technical Education. She now brings her extensive expertise and passion for education to Powell Middle School.

Throughout her career, Dr. Kelly has championed academic achievement, led impactful professional development, and fostered strong community partnerships. She holds a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Mississippi College and is widely recognized for her transformative leadership, dedication to equity, and commitment to student success.
