“Downtown In Bloom” spring series returns to Smith Park April 1-May 16
JACKSON, Mississippi—Downtown In Bloom, a series of special events, takes place in historic Smith Park in Downtown Jackson, April 1 through May 16.
Returning events include Hump Day with Frank the Camel, The Smith Park Supper Club, and Sunday Stroll, where cyclists meet downtown for a ride.
“We activated this series last spring to encourage downtown employees, residents and visitors to come out to Smith Park. At the time the park was an underutilized green space in the heart of downtown,” said Liz Brister, president of Downtown Jackson Partners. “It was incredibly successful and well-attended and has only grown since. This spring is our best series yet!”
The series kicks off on Wednesday April 1 with Frank the Camel—no fooling! The Mississippi Symphony Orchestra will join Frank each Wednesday through May 13 to perform for the lunchtime crowd. A variety of food trucks and vendors will have food and beverages for sale.
A Friday Farmers’ Market will offer fresh, local fare for purchase from Footprint Farms. Central Mississippi Blues Society musicians will perform live.
Saturday Yoga in the Park is a free, seven-week series led by certified instructor and downtown resident Ebony Archie. Each week will have a different focus, including goat yoga, puppy yoga, a live band or DJ and more.
Sunday, April 19 and May 17, cyclists can meet at the Welcome to Jackson mural for a ride through downtown. Riders will pass beautiful architecture, public art and blooming green spaces.
Smith Park Supper Club returns April 2 and May 7. Fine dining under the stars while listening or dancing to the Smith Park Supper Club Swing Band is on the menu. Celebrity chefs include Hunter Evans, Enrika Williams, Damien Cavicchi and Chaz Lindsay. Tickets are available through Eventbrite.
“Saturday, April 25, we kick off the Levitt AMP Downtown Jackson Music Series with the grammy-winning Mississippi Mass Choir,” said Brister. “We’ll have a gospel brunch on the grounds. You can bring your own picnic to enjoy the free show or buy brunch from our vendors.”
The event will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Concertgoers are encouraged to bring their own chairs or blankets.
