Congressman Thompson Announces Federally Funded Charter Flights from Greenville, MS to Atlanta, GA and Dallas, TX
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Bennie G. Thompson (MS-02) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Essential Air Service has selected the city of Greenville, Mississippi, to continue receiving federally supported air service through a partnership with Denver Air Connection (DAC). Under this agreement, Denver Air Connection will operate 12 weekly round-trip flights between Greenville Mid-Delta Airport (GLH) and either Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) or Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). Each flight will accommodate up to 30 passengers.
“I recognize how impactful this partnership will be for the people of Greenville,” said Congressman Bennie G. Thompson. “Providing direct charter service to Atlanta and Dallas means residents no longer have to make long drives to Jackson, Memphis, or Little Rock just to catch a flight. I will always support initiatives that bring resources closer to the people I serve.”
Congress set up the Essential Air Service (EAS) program, run by the U.S. Department of Transportation, to make sure smaller communities keep regular passenger flights by providing financial help when needed. This program helps places like Greenville keep important air connections that could be lost because of changes in airline rules and market demands.
“I thank Airport Director Levell D. Hawkins for his leadership and the community for their engagement. DAC’s strong record and responsiveness to Greenville’s priorities made them the clear choice,” said Mayor Errick D. Simmons. “This is about more than air service—it’s about economic growth, healthcare access, and opportunity. We remain committed to investing in infrastructure that strengthens Greenville’s future.”
“Reliable transportation is not a luxury, it’s a necessity,” Thompson added. “In rural communities like Greenville, too many folks don’t have easy access to a vehicle or public transit. This air service helps close that gap. It gives families, workers, and seniors a dependable way to reach major cities, strengthens Greenville’s economy, and ensures our region stays connected.”
