JANS – On May 2, 2026, Dr. Denise Elaine Powell was united in marriage to Mr. Kristopher Delorean Henny at St. Richard Catholic Church. The bride is the daughter of Dr. Selika Sweet and Mr. Roland Powell Jr. of the metro Jackson, Mississippi, area. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kedrick Henny of Houston.

Following the nuptials, guests gathered for a beautiful reception at Old Capitol Inn. After an elegant courtyard celebration, the bride and groom, accompanied by the Southern Komfort Brass Band, led the wedding party and guests down North State Street in a jubilant South Louisiana-style second line filled with music, dancing, and celebration. Guests then returned to the Old Capitol Inn for a seated dinner and entertainment by DJ Sinatra Harris, known for proudly representing his community roots, before the festivities continued into the evening at Hal & Mal’s.

The rehearsal dinner, held Friday evening at Fairview Inn, honored the bride’s Mississippi heritage with a distinctive “Mississippi” theme. Guests enjoyed an evening of blues music and Southern cuisine, featuring fried chicken, macaroni and cheese, greens, and other regional favorites, creating a warm celebration of family, culture, and hospitality. The following day, the bride embraced the spirit of Louisiana with a joyful “Laissez les bons temps rouler” wedding theme, paying tribute to the groom’s family roots in Sunset, Opelousas, and Natchitoches.

Following their honeymoon in Key West, the couple will make their home in Houston.
