City of Jackson Seeks Community Input on ONELINE Corridor Development Study

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Survey open through January 25 to inform ONELINE priorities

JACKSON, Miss. — The City of Jackson invites the community to take an online survey for the ONELINE Corridor Development Study. The survey seeks feedback on draft development concepts for three sites in central Jackson, as well as priorities for transportation improvements in Fondren, Belhaven, Downtown, and the Jackson State University (JSU) area. This is the final week to respond to the survey, which will close on Jan. 25, 2026.

The survey is part of a study for the ONELINE corridor, a proposed frequent bus route that would offer upgraded service for the highest transit ridership area in Jackson, running along State Street from Fondren to Downtown and west toward JSU.

To make the most of that effort, the study is exploring ways to make the area more transit-friendly by improving sidewalks, streets, and trails connecting to the ONELINE route and reimagining vacant sites and parking lots as new and renovated housing, businesses, parks, and public spaces to create more destinations along Jackson’s central corridor.

“We were happy to hear from so many people at the open house in December. They brought great ideas about how to make their commutes better with projects like safer crossings, and how to bring more energy to their neighborhoods with ideas like new park features. That kind of input is what makes this plan personal to Jackson,” said Mayor John Horhn. “We want to make sure the study’s recommendations are things that will make people’s lives and experiences in Jackson better. The survey is another great way for people to tell us that.”

Community members are encouraged to share their thoughts by taking the survey at onelinejxn.com/survey. More information about this project, including boards from the open house in December, is available on the website at onelinejxn.com.

Project Background

The ONELINE Corridor Development Study is a vision and action plan for improved transportation and development along State Street and west to JSU, including enhanced bus service. This effort is funded by a grant from the Federal Transit Administration to plan for transit-oriented development. The study area includes parts of Fondren, Belhaven, Downtown Jackson, and neighborhoods around JSU.

This study kicked off in spring 2025. Over the summer, the community shared input on their needs and priorities for development and transportation. In December and January, the project team is collecting input on draft concepts that were developed based on this input. The action plan will be ready in spring 2026. The final study will describe the community’s vision for central Jackson and include recommendations and implementation strategies for transportation, public space, and development projects along State Street and west toward JSU. It will give the City and its partners clear next steps for infrastructure improvements along the corridor, as well as identify the necessary regulatory changes to support the desired type of development and strategies for attracting the desired development to the area.
