City Council honors hometown heroes – William Bryce McElroy

RESOLUTION OF THE JACKSON CITY COUNCIL HONORING WILLIAM BRYCE MCELROY FOR OUTSTANDING ATHLETIC ACHIEVEMENT AND ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE. 

“Excellence is not an act, but a habit.” 

WHEREAS, the Jackson City Council takes great pride in recognizing the accomplishments of young citizens whose dedication, discipline, and perseverance bring honor to themselves, their families, and the City of Jackson; and 

WHEREAS, William Bryce McElroy, a ninth-grade student-athlete at Madison Ridgeland Academy, has demonstrated exceptional talent and commitment in track and field; and 

WHEREAS, during the Mississippi Association of Independent School (MAIS) State Track and Field Championships, William won the 110-Meter Hurdles with a time of 15.50 seconds and the 300-Meter Hurdles with a time of 39.87 seconds, earning two individual state titles for Madison-Ridgeland Academy. 

WHEREAS, in recognition of his outstanding performance throughout the season, William was selected as a 2026 MAIS Track and Field All-Star, placing him among the top student-athletes in the state of Mississippi independent school athletics; and 

WHEREAS, William exemplifies the qualities of a well-rounded student-athlete through his participation in both the River Hills Swim Team and the Madison-Ridgeland Academy Swim Team, reflecting year-round dedication to athletic excellence; and 

WHEREAS, William further demonstrates ambition and discipline beyond athletics as a pilot in training with McElroy Aviation, pursuing his passion for aviation and developing skills in flight and aeronautical knowledge; and 

WHEREAS, the in addition to his athletic and aviation pursuits, William maintains a strong commitment to academics, personal development, and community values, reflecting the highest ideals of youth achievement; and 

WHEREAS, William Bryce McElroy is the son of Mr. William McElroy and Dr. Yolanda McElroy, active members of New Hope Baptist Church and residents of Ward 2 in the City of Jackson, Mississippi; and 

WHEREAS, the City of Jackson believes that the accomplishments of its young people reflect the promise of its future, and that excellence, discipline, and perseverance are the foundation of tomorrow’s leadership. 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Jackson City Council hereby commends and congratulates William Bryce McElroy for his outstanding athletic achievements, state championships, and recognition as a 2026 MAIS All-Star, and extends best wishes for continued success in academics, athletics, and his future endeavors.
