Columbus, MS — With one week remaining before Mississippi’s March 10 Senate primary, District Attorney and U.S. Senate candidate Scott Colom today announced the endorsement of twenty-two state legislators whose districts span every region of the state, representing hundreds of thousands of working Mississippians who are counting on their next Senator to fight for them. These lawmakers say Scott Colom is the fighter Mississippi needs in Washington to address the issues that matter most to working families across the state.
The endorsers — from the Mississippi Delta to the Gulf Coast, from the Hills of northeast Mississippi to the Pine Belt — cited Colom’s record as a seventh-generation Mississippian, his strong track record of keeping communities safe as District Attorney, and his commitment to expanding access to health care, lowering costs for working families, and bringing good-paying jobs home to Mississippi.
“Mississippi families are hurting, and they need a Senator who actually shows up for them. Scott Colom has spent his career fighting for Mississippians in the courtroom, and I know he will do the same in the United States Senate. He is exactly the kind of leader our state deserves,” said State Representative Robert L. Johnson III.
“These lawmakers are committed to serving hardworking Mississippians, just like I am, and I’m humbled and grateful to have their support. We may come from different corners of this state, but we share the same vision: a Mississippi where every family can get quality health care, afford groceries and utilities, and find a good-paying job close to home. That’s what this campaign is about. Mississippi matters, and working together, we are going to make sure Washington knows it,” said District Attorney Colom.
The following state legislators have endorsed Scott Colom for U.S. Senate:
- Sen. Theresa Gillespie Isom
- Sen. Derrick T. Simmons
- Sen. Angela Turner Ford
- Sen. Justin Pope
- Sen. Reginald Jackson
- Sen. Rod Hickman
- Rep. Timaka James-Jones

The endorsement adds to a growing wave of support for Colom’s campaign, which has already earned the backing of the Congressman Bennie Thompson, AFL-CIO, and the Congressional Black Caucus PAC. Colom has been traveling across Mississippi, holding listening sessions, town halls and community conversations from the Delta to the Gulf Coast — a sharp contrast to incumbent Cindy Hyde-Smith, who has largely stayed out of public view in the state and has refused to answer questions from Mississippians about her record.
