Atmos Energy supports Mississippians with financial assistance Energy Assistance Blitz helped 640 Jackson area households with funds to pay energy bills
JANS – The results are in and it is official: the “Energy Assistance Blitz” that Atmos Energy and The Salvation Army hosted was a huge success!
Starting at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, March 10, and continuing until the doors closed a few hours later, 640 households in central Mississippi were helped and more than $286,000 was distributed, getting most of those households caught up with their natural gas bills in advance of cooler weather that is forecasted to arrive early next week.
“We knew it was going to be a big day when customers began lining up two hours before we were scheduled to begin,” said Robert Lesley, Atmos Energy public affairs manager. “By the time we closed the doors, everyone in line was able to meet with an Atmos Energy representative and receive at least some assistance.”
“It was a great day serving our community and helping meet real, practical needs for hundreds of people,” said Major Tim Delaney of The Salvation Army. “We are thankful for our partnership with Atmos and their continued heart to make a difference in the lives of those we serve.”
This gift is one of hundreds made by Atmos Energy as part of an enterprise-wide program known as Fueling Safe and Thriving Communities. Atmos Energy invests in educational, literacy, energy assistance, and food security resources across the 1,400 communities the company serves.
Central District PSC Commissioner De’Keither Stamps was also on hand for the event. His office has been integral in promoting bill payment assistance for central Mississippi residents.
“Events like this show what can happen when organizations come together to serve the community,” said Commissioner Stamps. “Many families are navigating difficult moments, and having partners like Atmos Energy and The Salvation Army step forward to provide support makes a real difference. Efforts like this remind people that they’re not facing those challenges alone.”
“In Mississippi, we look out for one another – especially when times are tough,” said Bobby Morgan, vice president of public affairs for Atmos Energy’s Mississippi division. “Helping customers who are struggling to pay their natural gas bills is one of the most important things we do. No family in our community should have to choose between keeping their home warm and paying for necessities like groceries or medicine. By partnering with The Salvation Army here in Jackson, we’re able to connect people with real help and make a meaningful difference for families who need it most.”
