Agriculture Day at Piney Woods: Growing knowledge, confidence, and opportunity

JANS – Agriculture is a vital part of our heritage and our future, and recently the Piney Woods School had the unique opportunity to bring that vision to life at their very own Leadership Farm. In partnership with Capitol United Way and Tuskegee University, students from across the Jackson Metro area participated in a hands-on Agriculture Day, exploring the world of agricultural sciences and the many careers it offers.

The event featured interactive learning stations where learners engaged with real-world agricultural practices, from soil and plant science to sustainable farming techniques. Each station offered students a chance to get their hands dirty, ask questions, and develop confidence in their abilities – all while connecting with the natural world and the legacy of agriculture in our community.

Thanks to the partnership with Tuskegee University, students also gained insight into agricultural careers, learning from experts who are shaping the future of the field. This exposure not only enriched their understanding of agriculture but also opened doors to potential pathways in science, technology, and sustainability.

“Agriculture Day was a fantastic experience for our students,” said a school representative. “It allowed them to see the connection between classroom learning, hands-on application, and future opportunities. We are grateful to Capitol United Way and Tuskegee University for making this day possible.”

The day was filled with laughter, curiosity, and discovery, leaving a lasting impression on all who participated. With every seed planted and every experiment conducted, learners grew not just in knowledge, but in confidence and opportunity.
