Editor’s Note: Abram “Huck” Jones’ unrelenting love to his family and community will forever be remembered. The word “No” was not in his vocabulary; whatever the need or want, it was yours just for the asking. The beauty in this is that he didn’t seek or desire anything in return. Rest well, our dear brother, as we celebrate your incredible life Saturday, September 7, 2024, 11:00 a.m., Christ Tabernacle Church, 1201 Cooper Road, Jackson, MS; Pastor Hosea J. Hines, officiating.

Mr. Abram “Huck” Jones III was born June 28, 1949, to Mr. Abram Jones II and Mrs. Mattie Mae Byrd-Jones in Jackson, MS. He transitioned peacefully Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the University Medical Center.

Abram grew up in Jackson, MS in the community referred to as “Doodleville”. He attended Martin Elementary and Jim Hill High School – “Tiger Nation” – where he was a graduate of the grand class of 1967. Later, he attended Jackson State University, graduating  in 1976 with a bachelor’s in Mass Communication.

Shortly thereafter, Abram joined the United States Army and was stationed in Fort Hood, Texas.

In 1986, Abram wed the love of his life, Emma, who remained at his side through numerous health challenges, as well as providing a loving home for their clan.

He joined Beta Alpha Chapter Omega Psi Phi, Incorporated, in 1990, and held fast to its philosophy of “friendship is essential to the soul”. He was also a member of M.W. Stringer Grand Lodge F. & A.M. Medgar Evers Lodge #697.

Abram was a jack of all trades. He worked all his life, and like most young people, he would list a stint at McDonald’s (New York City) on his resume. He would later dedicate himself to the City of Jackson Police Department, Hinds County Sheriff Department, Capitol Police Department, 90.1 WMPR, Jackson Advocate, Wright’s Security, Magnetek as an administrator, and known to all in the Jackson metro area as photographer extraordinaire. One of his favorite photography assignments was capturing the moves of the Fashion High Steppers with Rose “Boss Lady” Love, Mary Thompson, and Mary “Queen Bee” Jones. He also served as security for the group.

Abram wore many hats, but his main passion was taking pictures near and far and riding his motorcycle. He was a member of MS Highway Travelers motorcycle club. He met no strangers. In the late 80’s and early 90’s he traveled for several years with The Sonic Boom of the South working alongside the late Dr. Jimmie James. He loved his family and cooking. He was loved by many, and will be forever missed.

Preceding him in death were his grandfather, Mr. Abram Jones Sr.; parents, Mr. Abram Jones Jr. and Mrs. Mattie Mae Byrd-Jones; sister, Linda Sue Jones; brother, Willis K. Jones; two grandsons, A’Darius Flagg and Zacardi Hezekiah Jones; two sons, Vincent Moore and Michael A. Brown Sr.; and three nephews, Vincent R. Jones Sr., Vincent R. Jones Jr., and Jeffrey D. Downs Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memories: wife of 38 years, Mrs. Emma Jones; two sisters, Joyce Elaine Jones-Downs, Jackson, MS and Bobbie Wilson, Clinton, MS; two brothers, Cleotha “Roc” Jones, Jackson, MS and Woodrow Wilson, Bassfield, MS; nine daughters, Tracy Greene, Jackson, MS, Chandra Leonard, Jackson, MS, Lashunda (Joe) Harrison, Jackson, MS, Marquessa Allgood, Baltimore, MD, Patrice (Robert Gibbs) Jones, Jackson, MS, Courtney Lott, D’lo, MS, Jennifer Richardson, Indianola, MS, Latricia Brown, Jackson, MS, and Joytaisha (Lucky) Henderson, Jackson, MS; three sons, Kenneth (Tonia) Andrews, Atlanta, GA, Bernard (Tonya) Jones, Jackson, MS, and Abram Jones IV, Jackson, MS; 48 grandchildren; 32 great-grands; a puppy granddaughter (Wisdom); two godsisters, Alice Thomas-Tisdale and Ann Frazier-LaGuan; godson, Chris Gray Sr.; four goddaughters, Latona Owens, Latonia D. Peels, Laparish Williams-Bloodsaw, and Belicia Magee; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
