Mississippi Southern Soul Celebration continues to honor and promote the genre

JANS – The Mississippi Southern Soul Celebration is an annual event dedicated to recognizing and uplifting the rich musical legacy of Southern Soul. Hosted by Southern Soul Media Group, which is led by Commissioner De’Keither Stamps and Marlena Wright, this celebration continues to shine a spotlight on the artists, DJs, and promoters who contribute to the genre’s growth and preservation.

At the heart of the event is a special legislative resolution, which officially acknowledges the impact of Southern Soul music and those who have played a significant role in its evolution. Artists, DJs, and promoters who wish to be included in the resolution must meet the following criteria:

1. Artists must have been actively creating and performing Southern Soul music for at least one year.

2. All individuals must have been born in Mississippi or have lived in the state for at least one year.

A Year-Round Commitment to Southern Soul

Beyond the annual celebration, Southern Soul Media Group remains committed to keeping the genre thriving. As part of this effort, the organization launched Southern Soul Tuesday, a weekly live music event held at MBar Sports Lounge in collaboration with WMPR 90.1 FM. Southern Soul Tuesday provides a platform for artists from across the country to showcase their talent and connect with audiences in a vibrant, authentic setting.
