Expanding True Light Ministry’s disaster support

True Light Ministry is a faith-based nonprofit organization established in 2014 to serve the residents of Yazoo County, Mississippi. For more than a decade, our ministry has worked to address food insecurity and provide essential support to individuals and families in need throughout Yazoo County and surrounding communities.

From the beginning, our mission has been guided by a simple belief: no one in our community should go to bed hungry. Rooted in faith, True Light Ministry has provided food, clothing, and basic necessities with dignity and compassion, relying on dedicated volunteers and community support to meet ongoing needs.

At this time, I want to bring awareness to an emerging effort at True Light Ministry to expand our services to include transitional housing for individuals and families displaced by disasters, such as house fires and severe weather events. While this transitional housing initiative is still in development and not yet complete, it reflects a growing need within Yazoo County for local, temporary housing options when emergencies occur.

Our facility, which currently houses our food pantry, includes rooms that are being prepared for future use as temporary living spaces. Once completed, these spaces are intended to accommodate families of varying sizes and provide a safe, stable environment during times of crisis. In addition to shelter, True Light Ministry plans to continue offering access to food, essential items, and connections to supportive community resources.

This effort is focused on preparedness and awareness. Disasters often happen without warning, and many families are left without immediate options for shelter. By sharing this information now, my hope is to engage the community in supporting a vision that strengthens local disaster response and ensures Yazoo County and surrounding areas are better prepared to care for neighbors in need.
