Kimberly Griffin wins Alumni Achievement Award from MS University for Women
JANS – The Mississippi University for Women Alumni Association (MUWAA) named Kimberly Griffin, Class of 1993, as the recipient of its annual Alumni Achievement Award. The award honors graduates who have made a lasting impact in their careers and communities.
Griffin spent the first part of her career in for-profit media sales and revenue before moving into nonprofit journalism and fundraising. She served as Associate Publisher of the Jackson Free Press and co-founded the Mississippi Free Press, where she led fundraising and revenue development. Today, she runs her own consulting practice, working directly with nonprofits on donor cultivation, membership programs, major gift strategy, and CRM implementation. She also designs and leads organizational retreats for nonprofit organizations.
“The W shaped who I am,” said Griffin. “The women I met and the experiences I had there gave me the foundation for everything I have built in my career. I accept this honor on behalf of every mentor, colleague, and community member who believed in me and pushed me forward.”
The Institute for Nonprofit News named Griffin Emerging News Leader of the Year. She earned a fellowship with LION Publishers and finished as a Top 10 finalist for Business Woman of the Year with the Mississippi Business Journal. She completed Leadership Mississippi in 2018 and serves as a Sustaining Member of the Junior League of Jackson.
At The W, Griffin was a member of the Black Student Council and the Student Government Association and wrote for The Spectator. She is a charter member of the Pi Zeta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
