JSU Endowed Scholarship Luncheon celebrates academic excellence and community support

JANS – The John & Vera Mae Perkins Endowed Scholarship at Jackson State University held its inaugural luncheon to celebrate the couple’s lifelong commitment to academic excellence and community outreach throughout Metro Jackson, and recognize its first two recipients – Angel Williams and Gabriel Shoulders. The program also served to move the needle closer to its goal to raise an additional $200,000 to support high-achieving students.

JSU President, Dr. Marcus Thompson, served as luncheon host which was organized by Elizabeth, Priscilla, and Deborah Perkins, co-presidents of the John & Vera Mae Perkins Foundation. “Our parents’ dedication to the community and commitment to education have significantly impacted the lives of many students,” stated Elizabeth Perkins, who oversees the foundation’s educational programs.

For certain, John and Vera Mae Perkins have left an indelible mark on the world through their tireless efforts to promote justice, equality, and community development. Their legacy lives on through the 10 Legacy schools that bear their name, each dedicated to nurturing and developing the next generation of leaders.
