Jackson native Bostic Poindexter returns home to build financial freedom one family at a time

For entrepreneur Bostic Poindexter, bringing “The Road to Financial Freedom” to Jackson is more than the launch of a new educational game. It is a homecoming rooted in purpose, with a mission to equip young people and families with financial knowledge that can create lasting change for generations.

A native Jacksonian, Poindexter says his upbringing in the city inspired his commitment to making financial education accessible and engaging.

“Growing up in Jackson shaped who I am,” he said. “Like many families here, we worked hard but we were not always taught how money really worked. Coming back home with “The Road to Financial Freedom” is personal. I want the next generation to start with knowledge we did not have. If we help young people make smarter financial decisions earlier, we can strengthen families and strengthen Jackson.”

Poindexter believes one of the greatest barriers to financial stability is not a lack of effort but a lack of education. Too often, he says, unhealthy financial habits become accepted as the norm and are passed from one generation to the next.

“One of the biggest misconceptions is that debt is just a normal part of life,” he said. “We normalize paying interest instead of building wealth. When families start talking about saving, investing, and making intentional financial decisions, they begin creating freedom instead of debt.”

That philosophy is at the heart of his educational board game, which introduces players to concepts like budgeting, investing, credit, and inflation through interactive play. The game also features an artificial intelligence guide named Harriet, designed to make financial concepts easier for families to understand.

“Harriet helps level the playing field,” explained Poindexter. “Anyone with a phone can access easy to understand financial education. As players scan the cards, Harriet explains topics like debt, inflation, investing, and budgeting in language families can understand.”

Poindexter believes those conversations should begin long before students enter adulthood.

“If students learn about credit, investing, and budgeting before graduation, they are much less likely to fall into expensive financial traps,” he said. “They can make smarter decisions before real life teaches them the hard way.”

Launching the game at a community back to school resource fair was also intentional. Rather than expecting families to seek out financial education on their own, Poindexter wants to bring those lessons directly into spaces where they already gather.

“I remember spending time at the Boys and Girls Club on Raymond Road playing basketball and learning through games,” he said. “Financial education should not feel intimidating. We want to meet families where they already are and make learning about money practical and fun.”

While entrepreneurship has become part of his story, Poindexter says the true measure of success extends far beyond sales.

“Success is not just games sold,” he said. “Success is seeing students from Lanier, Jim Hill, and schools across Jackson become adults who understand money and help build a stronger city. I want to see this game in homes, schools, Boys and Girls Clubs, nonprofits, and even courses at Jackson State University.”

For aspiring entrepreneurs, his advice is simple. “Starting is scary. I know because I have been there. Today AI gives entrepreneurs access to tools that used to belong only to large companies. Start with what you have, keep learning, and keep building one step at a time.”

As Poindexter returns to the city that shaped him, his goal is clear. Empower Jackson families with the knowledge to make informed financial decisions and help build a stronger future. One conversation, one game, and one generation at a time.
