GALLERY – the Jackson MS Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. hosted Carole Robertson Day at the Bennie G. Thompson Academic & Civil Rights Research Center at Tougaloo College

On Sept. 20th, the Jackson MS Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. hosted Carole Robertson Day at the Bennie G. Thompson Academic & Civil Rights Research Center at Tougaloo College. The program honored the life and legacy of Carole Rosamond Robertson, one of four Black girls killed in the 1963 bombing of Birmingham’s Sixteenth Street Baptist Church. Robertson was 14 years old at the time of her death. The observance included reflections from teen members on Robertson’s life and legacy, a performance of “Lift Every Voice and Sing,” a dramatic presentation of “Ballad of Birmingham” and a Carole Robertson memorial ceremony. The annual observance highlights Robertson’s legacy while encouraging the next generation to learn about and carry forward the values of human rights, civil rights and racial harmony.
