Atmos Energy says ‘Thank You’ on National First Responders Day
Lunch offered to 1,400 police and firefighters in eight cities
JANS – National First Responders Day is celebrated on October 28th every year, and Atmos Energy marked the occasion by offering lunch to 1,400 police and firefighters in eight Mississippi cities as a way of saying “thank you” for all their hard work throughout the year.
“It’s a small gesture compared to the work these brave men and women do all year long,” said Bobby Morgan, Atmos Energy vice president of public affairs. “We receive a lot of assistance from first responders in a variety of situations, and we wanted to show our deep appreciation for their dedication.”
“On behalf of the Jackson Fire Department, I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Atmos Energy for their continued support and generosity,” said Chief RaSean Thomas of the Jackson Fire Department. “Providing meals and encouragement to our first responders means so much to the men and women of JFD who serve this community every day. Partnerships like this strengthen our mission and remind us that we’re all in this together.”
Lunches were delivered to police and fire departments in eight cities served by Atmos Energy, including Tupelo, Columbus, Jackson, Southaven, Meridian, Yazoo City, Natchez, and Greenwood.
National First Responders Day, first established in 2017 by the U.S. Congress, is rapidly becoming an important event for cities and towns across the country. Momentum to create a day of honor for police, firefighters, and EMTs increased significantly thanks to Andrew Collier, who advocated tirelessly after his brother, Officer Sean Collier, was killed in the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing. Atmos Energy is proud to partner with and celebrate these hometown heroes as part of its Fueling Safe and Thriving Communities program.
