JANS – It’s time for Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated – Alpha Delta Zeta Chapter’s Debutante Season that kicked off with its signature mother & daughter tea. This year’s theme – “Blueberry Soirée – embraced the state’s official fruit. The August 31, 2024, event was held at the River Hills Club in Jackson, MS.
The “Blueberry Soirée” is a celebration of the 2024 Zeta debutantes and a tribute to Little Miss Tailyn Hough, a sixth grader who helped lobby for the blueberry to become Mississippi’s state fruit last year. Miss Hough is also the granddaughter of the late Laura Jones, a beloved Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated – Alpha Delta Zeta Chapter member.
This year’s event is significant for the Alpha Delta Zeta Chapter as the Debutante Season returns after a five-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nineteen young ladies have been selected as debutantes for this season, continuing a cherished tradition that dates back to 1938.
Judge E. Faye Peterson, President of the Alpha Delta Zeta Chapter, commented on the significance of this event: “Alpha Delta Zeta Chapters Debutante Cotillion is a signature event for this community, and it is with great pride that we can reintroduce our signature event which has a rich history of generational participants. We invite everyone to attend and support the cotillion.”
The debutantes selected for this season will engage in programs and activities designed to cultivate their character, social principles, and career aspirations. These young women will participate in workshops, community service projects, and social events, culminating in a grand debutante presentation on December 14, 2024, at the Jackson Convention Center (Jackson, MS).
