JANS – Visit Jackson President & CEO Dr. Rickey Thigpen has been confirmed for a three-year reappointment term on Destinations International’s Executive Committee and has accepted the membership nomination as Board Secretary. This appointment positions him for a higher executive-level position in the future.
Thigpen is the first Mississippian to serve in leadership at this level for the leading global trade association for Destination Marketing Organizations.

I look forward to working with destination organizations and industry thought leaders to ensure that our industry continues to provide the resources and support that DMOs need to promote their destinations and drive economic growth. It is an honor to represent smaller destinations and my home state, Mississippi.”
DI plays a vital role in supporting and advocating for DMOs worldwide. The Association offers various resources and programs designed to help DMOs thrive, including research, education, and professional development.
Thigpen has a proven track record of success in travel and tourism. Under his leadership, Visit Jackson has achieved significant milestones, including being named DMO of the Year in the $3,000,000 and over-budget category for four consecutive years. Dr. Thigpen will be an asset to the DI Executive Committee with his vast leadership, diversity, and advocacy expertise. Thigpen currently serves as the president of the Mississippi Tourism Association.
The Association’s membership confirmed all Board nominations during its Annual Convention in Tampa, Florida, on July 18.
