Mississippi’s favorite comedian, Rita Brent of Jackson, continues to be focused on using her platform to inspire and educate her fans on the importance of voting and the democratic process.
On Friday, September 27, 2024, her foundation, named for her, will present Rhythm, Blues & Ballots, utilizing her performing arts background and celebrity status to combine entertainment with GOTV efforts.
Johnny T’s Bistro & Blues Club, located in the Farish Street Historic District, will be the site for the event, which is billed as a night of eclectic grouping of musicians and political pundits well versed in voting rights and civic responsibility.
Brent has been recognized nationally with appearances on Comedy Central, truTV, Epix TV, Circle TV, and CNN, along with touring as an opening act for Ricky Smiley and Cedric the Entertainer. Additionally, she has flexed her writing skills for the 73rd Primetime EMMY Awards, the People’s Choice Awards, and the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor Award.
“I am excited to host a night of entertainment with some of the best artists in the music business and leave attendees with some helpful insight ahead of the upcoming election,” commented Brent, who is also a musician.
The Rhythm, Blues & Ballots event kicks off at 6:30 p.m. and will delve right into political participation with a panel discussion led by Brent. The second half of the program begins at 8 p.m. with a concert headlined by a host of musical guests from touring stages throughout the nation and a few local artists excited to be a part of the showcase.
Sponsors are being sought to assist the Rita Brent Foundation to reach its goal to enhance voter awareness in Mississippi. Early bird tickets for the concert can be purchased at www.ritabrent.com. For additional information and/or to become a sponsor, contact Angela at booking@ritabrent.com.
