Mt. Eva celebrates 156th Church Anniversary

Mt. Eva M.B. Church, located at 3805 Wynndale Rd. in Terry, MS, and pastored by Dr. Robert West Sr., celebrated its 156th Church Anniversary Sunday, September 21, 2025. The theme was “The Old Ship of Zion,” which followed the biblical story of Jonah. Complementing the jovial afternoon was an array of beautifully decorated tables in the Fellowship Hall. They depicted the event theme. Following the program moderated by Min. (Dr.) Deloris Bailey, guests were treated to a wide variety of delicious entrees and desserts. Guest minister Pastor Joshua Myers, of Friendship M.B. Church in Jackson, MS, focused on the Theme Scripture (Jonah 1:12). It says: “And he [Jonah] said unto them [sailors on the ship], ‘take me up, and cast me forth into the sea; so shall the sea be calm unto you, for I know that for my sake this great tempest [fleeing from God] is upon you.’” This year’s recipients of the annual Levon Owens Community Service Award were Dr. Timothy Plummer from Mt. Salem M.B. Church and Deacon Cornelius Barnes from Mt. Eva M.B. Church. Owens was a community rancher and philanthropist who cared deeply for his Terry community and showed it every chance he could. He died in 2016. His widow, Hinds County Justice Court Judge Pearlie Brown Owens and numerous family members were on hand for the program. The Leading Lady’s Table Ministry is led by Sis. Annie Edwards, Min. Bright Fields, and Dr. Linda West, Mt. Eva’s First Lady. This year’s First Place Winner was the Table of Fellowship, Captain Deacon Cornelius Barnes from Mt. Eva M.B. Church; Second Place Winner was Discipleship, Captain, Dr. Lisa Camphor from St. Paul CME Church, Bentonia, MS; and Third Place Winner was Membership, Captains Icey Flowers and Irene Moorehead, Mt. Eva M.B. Church.
