JANS – During the annual Summer Conference in Biloxi, City of Jackson Ward 5 Councilman Vernon Hartley was elevated to president of The Mississippi Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials (MBC-LEO).
“My main priority is to help improve all communities in Mississippi, especially the underserved communities. We can achieve this goal by helping local elected leadership. It is an honor to serve my fellow elected officials around the state,” says Councilman Hartley.
MBC-LEO provides education, training, and support for local elected officials across the state. The non-profit corporation, organized under the laws of the State of Mississippi, is the largest constituency group of the Mississippi Municipal League (MML).
The goals and objectives of the organization are to promote:
• efficiency in government,
• effective leadership by local elected officials, and
• provides educational information and workable solutions to its membership.
MBC-LEO also maintains a network of experienced officials who support and counsel officials in sister cities and promotes active membership in MML.
