JANS – Belhaven University has launched a new Bachelor of Science in Applied Chemistry degree, further strengthening its commitment to Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) education. This program is designed to prepare students for employment as chemistry laboratory technicians, with a focus on hands-on learning and practical applications.
The new degree emphasizes enhanced coursework in analytical chemistry and programming, equipping graduates for careers in fields such as environmental testing, pharmaceutical quality control, and medical testing.
Dr. Brandon Majors, Chair of the Department of Chemistry & Physics, noted, “This degree sets itself apart by providing students with the skills needed for diverse and impactful careers in chemistry. Our curriculum is designed to ensure that graduates are ready to enter the workforce as skilled laboratory technicians.”
Provost Dr. Audrey Kelleher added, “This degree is a testament to our ongoing effort to strengthen STEM at Belhaven. It not only equips students with the technical skills needed to excel in laboratory settings but also integrates Christian faith, exploring how science is a study of God’s creation.”
